Why go

Tadapani is a small cluster of trekking lodges in a clearing of rhododendron and oak forest, about halfway between Ghorepani and Ghandruk. The name is usually explained as 'far water', after the long walk the settlement once needed to reach a spring.

It is the usual overnight stop on the Ghorepani Poon Hill loop when walking east from Ghorepani, and the starting point of the ridge trail north to Dobato, the Muldai viewpoint and Khopra Danda. A path also continues east and down to Chhuile and Kimrong, linking to Chhomrong on the Annapurna Base Camp route.

From the lodge terraces the views are of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre, often clearest at dawn.

History and culture

Tadapani has no old village core; it grew as a trail stop on land used by Gurung herders and farmers from Ghandruk, and lodge owners are mostly from the surrounding Gurung villages. The forest around it is part of the Annapurna Conservation Area and is home to langur monkeys and many bird species.
