Why go

Thulo Syabru is a Tamang village strung along a ridge spur above the Langtang Khola, a few hours' climb from Syabrubesi. On combined treks it is the hinge between the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda: trekkers coming down from Lama Hotel turn up to Thulo Syabru, and from here the trail climbs through forest to Sing Gompa and the lakes.

Houses and lodges step down the ridge with prayer flags and a small gompa, and on clear days there are views north to Langtang Lirung and west towards Ganesh Himal. It is a pleasant place to break the long climb from the valley to the high lakes.

History and culture

The village is mainly Tamang, a people of Tibetan Buddhist culture who make up most of Rasuwa's rural population. Farming of maize, millet and potatoes on the terraces below the village goes alongside trekking. Like much of Rasuwa, Thulo Syabru was badly damaged in the 2015 earthquake and has been rebuilt.
