Why go

Kutumsang is a small village on the long ridge that carries the Helambu trail north from Chisapani towards Tharepati. It is the usual second night of the trek, after a day of ups and downs through Pati Bhanjyang, Chipling and Gul Bhanjyang.

Lodges sit along the ridge with views east over the Melamchi valley and, in clear weather, north to the Jugal and Langtang ranges. Above the village the trail enters the forest of Langtang National Park and climbs towards Mangengoth and Tharepati.

History and culture

The village lies in Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality of Nuwakot district and is home to Tamang and Hyolmo families who combine farming with running lodges. Small chortens and prayer flags mark the trail. The Hyolmo people of Helambu follow Tibetan Buddhism and speak the Yolmo language.
