The living capital β seven UNESCO sites, medieval durbar squares, and the sacred stupas of Swayambhunath and Boudhanath.
ποΈ The story & spiritual meaning
Pashupatinath's golden gajur (pinnacle) crowns Nepal's holiest Shiva shrine. Legend says Shiva, weary of the gods, fled here disguised as a golden deer in the Sleshmantak forest. When the gods seized his horn to bring him back, it broke β and became the sacred linga worshipped ever since. 'Pashupati' means Lord of All Beings; the gilded gajur, offered by kings over centuries, marks the point where the temple touches heaven. Across town, Swayambhunath rose as a self-arisen flame from the lotus of the primordial lake.
